I picked up some 36 inch hummer tires for 150 bucks. I was just going to run them offroad. How well do you think the front end will hold up to that size tire running stock gears.
I am trying to hold off changing gears until I get to the axle swap for cost reasons. I can wait to run them but if they will work offroad for now I may go ahead and buy the wheels.
Just curious if anyone else ran a similar setup without to many problems.

IF, you were only gonna run them off-road, I dont think gears will be the issue.. just use 4lo if you are feeling underpowered...
HONESTLY, I think you will have fitment issues first and foremost..
The next thing I would be concerned for, is, those CV's in the front..
My 2 cents, Chase

I'll say one thing. the Hummer MTR's or whatever they are, are a lot more stiff than commercial ones. Military isn't too concerned with optimal rock gripping action.
But $150 for 36" rubber is a great deal no matter how stiff they are. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
I vote to wait for the axle swap. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />

Have you attempted a fit yet? I'd like to see pictures if you did, or are going to.

amazingly I think they will fit with the body lift. I will however have to cut the wheel well trim that sticks out as well as the door. Not to big of a deal cause I can reweld the pinch seam together.
yes the sawzaw will have to come out of hiding for that one <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />
they are extremely stiff tires as well. barly much flex. I think that with some dreative tire groving though they could provide some well needed traction.
Not sure on the turning radius though either. I may run into some issues there. The front CVs are definitly my main cons\cern as well though. Id like to make it home <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />

You'd not be driving down on them would you?

Sorry to be negative, but:
1. Good luck finding 16.5 rim in a 6 lug. 2. Your cvs will not be happy. 3. Your d44 may not be happy. 4. I envision stock gearing with 36s cooking the 4l30 in short order.
I would sell em and try to find a deal on some 35" BFG or similiar. You will be a lot better off.

Actually wheels are rather easy to find. Both pro comp and whatever the other steel wheel company is make them in multiple sizes and lug patterns. They actually run the same price as 16 inch steelies do.
The 44 Im not so much worried about. The other two are a concern though, CVS inparticular the transfer case from all I have seen as held up well to all that run it. 35-36s is not that much difference in overall size and wieght ratio.
If I blow the cvs and the transfer case it will only motivate me to do the axle swap and tera low kit that much sooner. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" />
