Anyone have issues with MAS after installing TRD Drop in filters on 4Runners or Tacos? I just ordered them for my 4Runner and Taco and the Dealer was trying to deterr me from the purchase saying that they are having issues with the MAS after 15k miles. All I can guess is after people clean them they load them up with too much oil and don't let them dry before they drop them in. Anyone else with issues on this?

i'd imagine its the same problem that comes with K&N's too. Too much oil or not enough dry time, and it'll blow crud all over the MAS.

TRD filter are K&N filters, if you do any offroading this filter lets in too much dirt and has a tendency to cause the MAF sensor to become dirty throwing off a CEL code usually a P0171.

After testing many different brands of filters, I have found one that has worked the best to date. Made by TrueFlow....

Ditto. Ditched my TRD filters after about 20K. Didn't get a code, but my MAF was coated, and led to concerns about dirt getting thru also. Went back to stock Toyota filters.

Thanks for the info. This drop in is for my girlfriends 03 4Runner. It will most likely see very little off road. But I will keep this info. in mind on my 07 Taco. I am thinking more of running an ARB Snorkel on it instead. Also I got the TRD Drop in and I have had many K & N's in the past and the TRD Drop in has a different filter element than K&N. Maybe the concept is the same but the guts are different. I figured it had to do with not enough dry time and coating it too much. I will make sure to go easy on it. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />
