Just wanted to know how much 33s bog down the 2.6. I am thinking of going with anything from a 31 to 33 depending on how the ride is. Just seeing what experiences you guys have had.

my brother has 32's and it is not to bad.he drove it all the way from oregon to iowa.just dont expect it to be a sports car.you have the aerodynamics's of a brick.

I found myself going to 3rd on some of the bigger hills up here in the poconos on 33x12.5s, where I used to have to shift to 4th to hold 70-75 with 31x10.5s. But then again, I also had a cracked head at the time.
When I went turbo, not only could I leave it in 5th, but I'd still have plenty of get up to accelerate up to 80 on the same hills. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Around town, it's just fine, but I'm speaking for a 5spd, maybe different if you have an Auto.

On the highway 33's are sluggish but bearable. Definitely will have you running mostly in the slow lane. As mentioned, aerodynamics are not an attribute of these rigs, so even the slightest head-wind will hinder you. Before I changed to 5.29 gears and replaced my carb, I ran 33's with a bad carb on stock 4.625 gears with my 2.6L engine at high altitude. Yeah, it ran like a dog on the highway, but if I'd had a good carb it would have been a bit better. With the new gears and a good carb I can keep it in 5th on most hills and accelerate in 4th. I spend most of my time in the fast lane now.
If your intent is to do lots of 4-wheeling then go with 33's, however, if you anticipate only occasional light-duty 4-wheeling then go with 31's. You'll get better gas mileage and highway performance with 31's.

I have a 89 2.6 with 33x12.50 super swampers, they do slow down the vehicle, when you're going uphill you have to downshift and in road you almost can't use 5th speed
