Need a Spot
I am planning to replace shock absorbers of my Montero SR. First, front ones.
I ordered KG54302 ($46.95 x 2). The shop's site says " [color:"blue"]For Montero's with adjustable suspension refer to shock manufacturers' notes". And, the PDF file from KYB web page says:
[color:"red"]
MITSUBISHI MONTERO 1992-96 with VSA (Variable
Shock Absorbers)
1. Remove shock activators.
2. Unplug control module behind left rear trim panel.
3. Remove and install shocks per instruction sheet
supplied with units.
4. Use the following units: KG54302 Front, KG54303 Rear.

Does this mean the adjust switch (soft, medium, and hard) will still work with the new shocks? I don't care even if it doesn't work but I care if these shocks can be installed by myself... Let's see.

the only shocks that will work with the factory switch are the factory VSA shocks and they are very expensive to replace. you don't need to unplug control module behind rear trim panel b/c it is a PITA (see the post on replacing rear speakers, it is not an easy task). you can just leave it like it is, the light on your dash will still light up and switch will still work the lights, but it just won't do anything b/c when you take out your old shocks, they have to be unplugged from factory wiring harness (you will see a plug connector about 2 feet from the top of shock where you can disconnect them; the factory shocks have about 2 feet of wire or so attached to the activator). that is all you need to do, disconnect wiring harness at each shock and put your new ones in. if you want the light on your dash to go out, pop your switch out and unplug it, it won't allow power to go to dash lights.

cool. thank you!
The live help guy from Car Stuff Web site where I ordered the shocks said "if it has ECS (Elec. Controlled Suspension), they will work. if not, they won't." This confused me...

as far as I know, the mounting points should be the same, the only thing the factory adjustable shocks have is a little thing on top that the wires go to so they can be adjusted. probably some technicality in the books somewhere, but shocks for my 97 montero that didn't have VSA compared to shocks for my 97 montero that did have VSA are the same when looking for aftermarket options, mounting points are identical,
