Need a Spot
Aloha Everyone. I'm new to this post and just acquired an 83 4x4 sb. I plan on doing a lot of work myself. Therefore, any recommendations on manuals or e-manuals? Trying to find one that would cover bumepr to bumper in detail. Mahalo.

i have the haynes pickup/ 4runner book i dont use it much. but i have a fab'd flat bed and the manual helped me to hook up the lights that i put in the bed. 4 x 4 wire seems to have a lot of useful info for mods that no manual is going to have.

You don't see a lot for the 1st gen trucks online;

www.autozone.com and http://www.bedlib.org/ebsco.html have some basic stuff for the truck.

The factory service manual (FSM) is *the* manual for the truck. Keep your eye on fleabay, or you can order one from Toyota. Check for the information in the Manuals sticky'd at the top of the early truck section here.

I got one for my '83 from a fellow user here. It doesn't have the section for rebuilding the carb in it, but it shows up in the FSM for my '86; go figure.

Welcome to the board; lots of talent here!

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Definitely keep your eyes open for a Factory Service Manual, I got mine on eBay and it covers everything. I have a Chiltons too but it is nowhere as complete as the one from Toyota. Good luck.

Amongst various books etc that I've accumalated I also got at Wallyworld a CDROM by Chilton which covers pickups from Toyota 1970-1996 along with other makes. The kicker is when you buy the CD you can only access one vehicle per purchase. I think I paid $20 CAN. Anyways I find this CD better than the book.

Of this choice, I use the factory manual the most. The Super Clymer has really good emission diags though. [img]http://[image]http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u145/Cavu2usf/4X4Library.jpg[/img][/image]
