OK, here's a silly question that I think I already know the answer to, but just want to make sure. My sister just bought a 1997 Geo Tracker with a 3-speed transmission. It's a 2WD model. After owning it for a week, the tranny went south (as in parts sticking out the housing). My question is, is there a difference in the transmissions between 4x4 and 4x2 models, or do they have the same trannies with different transfer cases? The reason I ask is mainly availability. I've found all kinds of 4x4 trannies, but the 4x2's are few and far between. I'm totally new to Trackers/Sidekicks, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I don't think the trannys are the same. One way you could find out would be to call a Suzuki dealer and cross reference the trans main case part #'s. For some reason I thought all 4x4 after 1994 were all 4sp.
