I think the 3.4 torque in combination with my lead foot has begun to damage my already old u-joints.

I am getting a vibration through the entire vehicle and not through only through the seat or steering wheel. It is similar to driving on the rumble strips on the shoulder of the road. Under acceleration it is noticable, but when I let off of the gas it is really prounounced. Thinking it is the u-joints. Any other thoughts? It came on very quickly. Basically right after a burnout on dry pavement. I guess just because you can do it doesn't mean it is a good idea. hehehehe

Well, I know with doing the conversion that you had to have a 2" BL under there; I don't think that little bit would mean much. Maybe just coincidence; might've had to replace them a little later on anyway. If that driveline was DROPPED at any time, might consider checking to see if it's still true as a precaution.

Nice to see you're having fun with your handiwork. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />

I did drop the rear end of the shaft to remove the fuel tank and install the Walbro fuel pump not long ago. Is there a procedure for checking the installation of the shaft or just visual inspection?

Thanks

I took a look under there. It appears that the flanges on the shaft are self centering when bolting up to the third and tranfer case.

Getting new tires tomorrow. Don't expect much change but may get lucky. Will wait till then to see what happens. My current tires are shot.

There is; they can check the runout on the D/L. I wallowed out a rear third a few years back; turned out at some point I had bent the danged thing. It's in the FSM if you want to give it a look.

SOP for the shop up here is to put new ujoints in there, so all the slop is gone when they check/rebalance it, so that would be a couple bucks you can save in labor if you take it in.

Ouchie; well-- at least it didn't drop and stab the third for you while in motion. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" /> Guess we know what you'll be up to.

Both rear drive shaft U-joints were toasted bad. Now it is nice and smooth again.
