Need a Spot
I have an 85' pickup with a standard cab and a bench seat. I was wondering if a bucket seat from an extended cab or 4runner would bolt directly into my truck or would I need to do a lot of modifications.

Yep, just need to deal with the center-rear bolt holes as I have heard.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
The only bad thing about switching from bench to buckets is that you may lose some leg/head room. The bench (at least in my 89 reg cab) is contoured over the tranny hump so it can sit as far back and low as possible. The buckets have to mount partly over the tranny hump costing some room.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I threw out my bench (1989 pickup) to install buckets from a 1990 4runner. The buckets were the same color as my interior and free! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> The inner rear bolts were a problem. The original seat belts bolted there. I driiled new holes inthe tunnel where the factory put the belts in a bucket equipped truck. I put some pretty big washers in there, but I think I'll have some nuts welded up. All of the other bolts went in perfectly.

Roll Me Over
You will lose some leg room with buckets in a standard cab, however if you can get them out of an MR2, you wont loose as much as if they are out of a 1st gen Runner. The 2nd and 3rd gen Runner seats are thicker, so you will lose more leg room with these than with the 1st gen. seats. Another option would be to use a 60/40 split bench bucket seats. I installed a set from a '91 in the '86 X-cab I am rebuilding. There was some loss in headroom, but at 6'2" I still fit comfortably in it and there was no loss of leg room between the 60/40 and the original bench seat.

If you can't find buckets from a truck or MR2, look for buckets from import sports cars from the mid-80's, Supra and Celica seats will work, w/o a loss in headroom, other buckets will/can reduce headroom a lot, especially late model Honda buckets.

More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else.
'90 X-cab 4.88's 33 BFG AT's, rr ARB, Headers, Ignition upgrade, cold air induction.
'91 X-cab 5.29's 315's BFG MT's, rr ARB, custom bumper and flatbed
