96 trooper. Im switching out the stock rear coil springs for OME ones, but how do i get the old ones off? they look like they are welded to the axle??? anybody done this?

The spring buckets are welded to the axle but the coils just sit in the buckets. I ususally us a coil spring compressor and flex out one side of the axle by jacking one tire up or ramping it up on something.
when looking for a container to hold drained brake fluid, find a container that is different from the beverage you are currently consuming.

Thanks so, put a compressor on the spring so it doesnt expand, then jack up the frame of the truck and it should come out? sounds simple enough. then i guess i put the process in reverse to install the new ones?

Compressor is one option, another is to disconnect the shock and jack up the frame until the coil falls out. Then jack it a little higher to fit the OME coil in. Reconnect shock. It is pretty easy.

I was thinking about that, i didnt know if the distance would be great enough even with the shocks off... that would be alot easier though

If it wasn't for the shocks, the coils would fall out easily - they are the limiting factor in axle travel. When I got 2" longer shocks, even my OME coils were falling out upon extreme axle travel. Adding the 2" coil spacers I was planning on anyway fixed that problem.
You will need the ability to jack fairly high. Sears has a 21" "Extra High Lift" floor jack for about $60. I recommend something like that for general use if you are lifting your Trooper.

Careful...I agree about removing the shocks and then jacking the truck up...but watch the brake line it becomes the limiting factor when the shocks are out. Don't want to break them.

ok, so brake lines are a limitation, whether im jacking it up or have alot of flex on the trail... Is there a way to extend a brake line? I used to have a lifted tacoma, and when i extended the rear line on it, i disconected it and found a 13" piece of brake line with threads on each end... one thread went to the existing line and the other to its place on the rear end so it acted as an extender... is there such thing for the trooper? what have you guys done?

on the rear coil i did a set on my 92 trooper. If you disconect the shocks and let it come down you have just enough room to get the springs out. very easy job.
