Need a Spot
Hi, sorry if my spelling is bad, im from Sweden smile
Anyway, i have a 4runner 95 3.0 V6 and i have been losing some coolant for a time (a week) and i cant find the leek. Everything seems fine and thers no other problem. Is there any possibility that there is any thing else then a bad headgasket? if its the headgasket, is it best to repair it at Toyota? Its smells bad from the radiator (like rat..) can it have anything to do with it?

Thanks for any help!

It may be leaking into the cylinder.

But there is no white smoke or anything like that. Just like normal. Can it still be leaking in?

If it isn't leaking out on the ground, then it is coming out the exhaust as vapor. Get it fixed before you overheat the motor and cause more damage. Is isn't going to get cheaper or fix itself.

When was your last headgasket, how many miles ago?

My 3.0L just got a new headgasket this year, one replaced by Toyota and the rest from the current owner <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/baby.gif" alt="" />

It has never been replaced before, as long as i know. Today i saw it dripping from the gearbox. It was coolant. Is it possible that it is coming from the block?
Is it stupid to keep driving in a week or so?

Thanks

4Run95,

Take a moment to fill in your signature (My Home, next to Search) with info about your 4Runner...see mine below. Helpful to list mileage, auto vs. 5 speed, add-ons, etc.

You can drive your 4Runner for months as long as the headgasket doesn't totally blow - huge white cloud of smoke coming out of your exhaust and coolant level dropping accordingly. Keep a close eye on the coolant level, it sounds like you are already doing that. I have a friend that doesn't drive more than 10-15 miles at a time, has had a leaking headgasket for over a year. Me, I need to drive long distance at anytime.

What is your plan, repair yourself or have someone else do it?

Good luck,

Hugh

I will let someone else do it, i have never replaced a HG before. Is it best to let Toyota do it?
