Body Damage is Cool
so it was pouring down rain on friday and being the good driver i am, i chose to stop for a yellow light since i was about 15-20 feet in front of the white lines. anyways, about 3-5 seconds later an 02 2wd nissan frontier rear ended me. the other person's insurance should cover everything, but i'm worried about them low balling me, or ripping me off. oh and his insurance is nationwide, anyone have any experience w/ them? hopefully my car isn't totaled. what do you guys think?

oh and on top of someone rear ending me, 3 other cars hit each other trying to stop for the pickup that hit me about 10 min. later (I pulled my car forward immediately after the accident to get out of the way). At least one of the people in those cars left in an ambulance. Thankfully I was alright.

If you guys didn't already know, I got this car about a month ago. Here's what it looked like before the accident last tuesday.

here are some pics immediately after the accident.

this is the truck that hit me. from what i could see, both of his airbags went off, windshield was cracked, radiator was leaking, and the front bumper was basically hanging off. not to mention it wouldn't start(maybe b/c the airbags went off?). my car was still running after the accident.

these were taken today after i cleaned out my truck.

First and foremost: dude, that sucks

Secondly, glad you're OK, those crumple zones look like they did exactly what they were supposed to.

As far as how bad it is, I'd look underneath at the "frame" parts of the unibody to see if you can see creases forward anywhere. I think that's the part that really matters when it comes time to fix things. The rest is just sheet metal AFAIK.

Glad your ok. Does not look totaled to me but it depends if the uni-body is bent. Only a body shop can tell.

Good call on the stopping for the yellow. Way better to get rear ended than get t-boned and have it be your fault.

From the pics, it doesn't look too bad ... should be able to be fixed by a qualified body shop fairly easily. But then again, pictures can't tell you what seeing it in person tells you either.

I got hit by a person that had nationwide 5 and a half years ago. I think they treated me fairly decent. Took care of everything fairly promptly. But then again, I was fighting with USAA about another accident for 3 months ... Worst company I have ever dealt with. I've heard USAA is good, but it's not so good on the receiving end of everything.

Hope they treat you right. Doesn't look like there's enough to total it, but you'll just have to wait and see. Good luck.

Sorry to hear about that. I got rear ended a few years ago by someone with Nationwide and got totally ripped. I had a 1974 Volvo 145 Wagon that I had invested about $6000 (in the previous 12 months) and Nationwide totaled it and offered me a check for $1800 even though I provided receipts. In the end I "paid" them a $300 salvage fee and kept the car and $1500 and got the requisite bodywork done for $1200.

That sucks dude. Nice clean Acura...People just don't pay attention. And to hear that three other cars wrecked as well floors me. Well hopefully everything turns out well. Since you just bought it a month ago the bill of sale should be the price point for replacement. It can be fixed, maybe if they total it you can buy it back as salvage and fix it? Glad to hear you weren't hurt

Its a good thing you live in Virginia- state law says the customer has the choice when it comes to accident repair and NOT the insurance company.

FYI- hood and fender repair (work out curl in hood, replace fender) for my ex-wife 99 GSR was $2900 a few years back.

Dammit. I did not click on the link today at work because I was on dial up. I was going to write that.

Sucks about the car. Even worse, you just got it. Im no body guy, but that bent stuff in the trunk looks expensive.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.
