Need a Spot
I've got a 1990 Geo Tracker I was trying to find a replacement engine with a little more pep than the 8V 1.6.. Anyone know if the GSI 1.8 DOHC would fit? Or does anyone know any easy dropins that can replace the current engine? I was trying to find one of those japanese engines that are so cheap but it seems hard to catch one for the 1990. Also I have a 3 speed auto, anyone know any tranny's that would be a bump up? Maybe 4 speed or 5? I dont like running at 3.5k rpms or higher on the highway.. kinda kills the theory of getting good mpg.

Hopefully this forums thrives a little.. I don't see much going on in here but there aren't many options for tracker enthusiasts.

Thanks in advance.
Joe

Redwolf1974- is 1974 the year you were born? Anyways- If you look at the last question in this forum its mine. I'm currently running into the same problem of finding interchangabilty information. The best way I find these answers are by cross referencing part and model #'s of similar engines. In your case I think I'd look into the 1.6 16v instead looking at changing the displacement. When changing from the 1.6 to a 1.8 I think the blocks are completely different, "I could be wrong". When the blocks are different this usually mean you need to change motor mounts, exhaust parts, and possibly cooling parts like the radiator, fan or shroud. Also you may need worry about the trans. connecting up. If you want to change out both the engine and trans I think I would look for a 1992-1998 1.6 16v coupled to a 4sp auto trans. I hope my opinion helps you.
