Hi, the bottom end of my '87 is untouched but has a new head, new pumps, filters and a remanned carb from national carburetors. It runs ok but lacks a little in power. I know a guy that wants it since I've only put 5,000 miles on this carb so I was thinking of selling it to him and getting the Weber for me. How do those carbs perform and are they worth it? I'm running 31s right now and considering 33s with a regearing.

I have no first hand experience, those weber's are illegal in California My opinion is stay with the Mikuni, stock air system is nice, when they work they work well.

I would love to put on a Weber 32/36... and when I can afford the $350 + installation, and get the approval from the "boss" I will do it!
I find it interesting that you have someone interested in your factory one... everyone seems to talk negatively about them.

I say do whatever floats yer boat. I'm very happy the performance of my Mikuni (reman replacement a year ago). It's given me solid performance at even the the craziest of angles.....angles that were at the limits of the vehicle itself.

If I was going to spend money on a new fuel system, I'd probably want to spend it at the bone yard. I'm thinking a retrofit of a gm 2.5L Tech4 single barrel TBI setup. The adapter plate from TB to intake would be pretty straight forward...but that's another discussion (and one I think was on here before but with using a megasquirt controller).

Update, I found a Monty sitting in a local junk yard that has a weber 32/36 sitting in it. The owner of the place doesn't know that it's not factory so I'm trying to work out a deal for the carburetor and a fender (cuz mine's smashed)

Hope you don't have emissions/smog checks. It wouldn't fly here in the county Phoenix, AZ is in.
Having had a truck with the aforementioned Weber installed and pretty well tuned, I can say that I'd rather keep it stock and make it work. At the same time, I was also impressed with how much stuff could be eliminated, from the "device box," to coolant hose and a bunch of vacuum lines.
The Weber I had did not like extreme angles (down was especially bad, as I recall).
My opinion is that the factory system was thought through, and overcame many obstacles to maintain all-weather/angle performance with an acceptable mix of "economy" and emissions levels.
They are not cheap to have a rebuild done correctly on one, though, and I do not care to try to undertake it myself (referring to the stock Mikuni, that is).

The carb I have now is stock and rebuilt by national carburetors about 5,000 miles ago, so it's basically new. It is just running funny and I can't stand the multitude of vacuum lines either. I was just wondering if the extra little power the weber might give me should be enough to run 33s daily.

My Monty has the Mikuni carb but every time I see a post about the Weber I feel like kicking myself on the Why? Well, early last year I visited the local Pull-A-Part and there was a silver GEN I, I popped the hood and it had a Weber conversion and the price for pulling the carb+intake myself?
$40, YES $40
The issue is that I didn't buy it can you believe that? What was I thinking?
