Do a search for "end caps" and there are a lot out there. It is hard to tell from the pict. if you have the clearance for one. Looks like you would have to modify it where the weld is but a glob of silicone should solve that. Here is a co. that offers free samples:

caps

Tell them you are Bibleheimer Engineering and setting up production. There are a lot of caps in the hardware sect. of Lowes/Home Depot too.

That's an interesting possibility. I think welding/steel shops sell caps like that too. It would have to be very low profile because it looks like I've got 1/4" or less between the frame and tip of the idler. The RN series looks like it might work if you trimmed the part that goes down into the tube a little shorter.

The tube size is 1-5/8" with about .120" wall. Looks like the one for the 1-1/2" thin wall tube might fit (RN 1-1/2C).

.

Oh, and I removed my center link and drilled it in a drill press. The material drilled very easily though, so doing it on the truck with a hand drill doesn't seem like it would be that hard to do.

Body Damage is Cool

I just bought one, thanks to your post a few weeks ago... (oh btw, my wifey says you owe $330 for the recommendation ) Installed it weekend before last. Huge improvement! Now that that slop is gone, I feel the other gremlins...

Maybe I'm too much of a monkey, but I didn't feel comfortable drilling the relay rod on the truck... Didn't think I could come close to squaring it up as well as on a vice & was concerned of things moving around during the process.

Just thought I'd add a little update to this...

The TC idler arm has been working flawlessly. I have not needed to realign my truck at all since I installed it and because of it helping hold the alignment so well my tire wear up front has been much less than it used to be.

Anyone running IFS should run this idler. I highly recommend it.

funny to see threads i posted in almost three yrs ago.

anyone use any of total chaos other steering upgrades? like the hiem steering upgrade? really expensive, but maybe as good as the idler arm? maybe you could buy the parts and make a set up like that for cheaper.

A cheaper alternative is to just replace the idler arm bushings - SDORI sells some brass bushings that are specifically made for the AutoZoo version of teh idler arm... of all the aftermarket (and even OE) variants it has the beefiest arm AND comes w/ lifetime replacement free...

I'm using this now and it's held up very well through two very bumpy offroad races.

That's cool that they build those, but it doesn't do anything for the joint in the end of the arm that also wears out, and it doesn't do anything to keep the arm from bending either.

I know this thing is expensive, but its the only thing I've seen that addresses ALL of the problem areas of the factory style idler.

Definitely agreed.
I've seen some folks that have made a brace for teh arms out of 1/4" or even 5/16" stock, like the old Downey braces, but that takes some fabbing skills/equipment.
