Need a Spot
hello all, I have a 97' wrangler sport. I am looking to lift it. I have about 2k - 2.5k to spend. I want to go as big as possible. I am thinking of a suspension lift or a combonation suspension/body lift. The lift would be for looks mostly, although I do hit the trails occasionally. I would like to be able to put 40"s on it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for help in advance.

Yeah! What gears are you thinking of running? If 40's are ahead you should be thinking of getting gears first.. What engine is in that ride?

Well if you oil that filter much the oil will clog up your iac and TB... If you don't oil it particles of dirt will wear out your rings.. Sortof a catch22 isn't it?
Do you know what gearing you have.. Prolly came with a 3:07 hiway gear With 40's you will most likely need 5:somethings..
So couple of grand for the gears and two more for the lift and two more for tires? Then the driveshafts will be too short.. So maybe seven grand and you will be riding around on 40's. Sound about right?

keep in mind that bigger is not always better! running 40's on your rig will definately require doing some serious beefing up of your stock axles. i'm a toyota guy but i wheel with quite a few jeepers and have seen some of them break axles on hillclimbs with 33's. i'm not the type of guy to tell someone else how to spend their money but trust me, do some research on your build up plan. 4x4Wire is prolly one of the best places to get info for your build so take advantage of it!!! you'll thank us later. these guys know their sh.....stuff !

good luck with your project !

That sounds like an expensive journey your about to undertake. It will most likely be that the front hubs / bearings will be unable to support that amount of mass spinning. Another thought, would be that the brakes will be needing upgading to a massive size, which means rims that will far exceed your budget by themselves. Typically when a posting of this nature comes along I would tend to ignore it as beginning desires for ones ride, but this is going to be such an expensive undertaking you'd prob be better bying a new Rubi and calling it a day. I would guess upwards of 12K to do it safely.

Completely slipped my mind! Yep dragging your left foot would prolly be better than stomping on the brake pedal.
Another reason to go for 8-lug wheels is the availability of brakes for those axles.
Good post C.
Notice the guy hasn't been back lately.

im gonna say that 2-2.5k is not nearly enough for the project your speaking of, i agree with the other guys. if u want 40's you'll probably spend most of that 2.5k on the tires and rims alone.
