What I envisioned is we would add the basic specs such as I've laid out in the Toy Section of the wiki; sparingly add links to existing 4x4wire content; and add all new content to the wiki a la our static articles on 4x4wire.
I'm not sure how this is gonna shape out, but let me ask if this would be useful... directory-level search of existing content, and creation of essentially a section-by-section sitemap, for the wiki to link back to content?

We have some excellent established content, and I'm interested in tying these together, if that would be of assistance.

Here, posted by the Wiki Moron of All

http://wiki.4x4wire.com/index.php/Engine 3.0 to 3.4 swap <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Is this whatcher lookin' for? I've got a couple snippets from past threads that are commonly asked, esp for mods; I've also got related urls for stuff that is relevant.

Converting from first person to third was a bit of a challenge.

I've had some of this stuff in a Word doc for awhile.

Em...Yota99714 MD Schwartz for ya Joe.

Edit: I stuck an article out there for suspension, but I think I lack something to make it a stand-alone article under the suspension catagory....hmph.

As Ssgts's Flora and Dykes used to say:

"Thanks for volunteering"

FWIW the wiki is not a CMS or a sitemap, but if people want to take this on, that'd be cool.

Margie, thanks for posting that stuff!

You'll notice I moved it. Those pages you posted to are containers for article listings, with the actual articles underneath them. You just add a title for the article surrounded by [[ ]], save, click the red text, and paste the content in, and save. The brackets create a link.

Yeah, I'll just have to beat myself up with the learning curve. Thought I read that right for the [[title]], but couldn't get it to work right. Didn't see an red text, but am willing to give it a shot; the gray matter needs some stimulation. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

I definitely get that (though I'd love to have a database-driven CMS, the cut-oover would be MISERABLE), but I think populating section-level sitemaps will make it simpler for wiki-writers to reach out and link to relevant content that already exists, minimizing duplication but adding definition.

Here is an example of a wiki article, which I had on my personal page:

Toyota IFS Shock Spacing.

Ok, I learned a lesson and recommend we use this standard going forward - esp since we have no content in the wiki yet.

Preface each section and article with the brand name, e.g. toyota_engines, jeep_overview! If perchance someone names an article as a link that already exists, it'll link to the existing content.

If we preface everything with the brand, it'll avoid conflicts *and* we can copy one section's layout and apply it to a new section by simply changing the preface, e.g. toyota_engines would be suzuki_engines when pasted into the Zuk section.

Make sense?

I'm not sure what you mean about the preface. I looked at your shock spacer article as an example and didn't see anything like that anywhere...

[Edit] Ok, I see what you mean over in the engine section. I did it here,
http://wiki.4x4wire.com/index.php?t...29&action=edit&section=1
but then the link ends up bad, so I had to create a new page.

Old link:
http://wiki.4x4wire.com/index.php/Total_Chaos_Idler_Arm_vs._stock
New link:
http://wiki.4x4wire.com/index.php/Toyota_suspension_total_chaos_idler_arm

Was there a way to change the name/location of the first one instead?
And/or is there a way to go back and delete the first one?
Maybe that would be more of an admin type permission...

One thing I noticed about this setup is that there is no way to go back up the "tree" that brought you here ( \Toyota\suspension\ ). You have to either use the back button or start over at the Main Page. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
I guess we can add our own link tree, but that could be a hassle to do for every article...
