Would this really help my HP on highway speeds of 70-75mph? just want to fabricate something to force cold air into the air filter, or will it be too much and try to kill it? Thx

you can always do the jeep cherokee spacer trick. Instead of making an elaborate intake system, you make a spacer and put it between the hood and the hinges. It's usually made with 1" square tubing, and just drilled out to the bolt pattern. You will also require 1" longer bolts. You will lower the ambient air temp by allowing hot air a route out the back, and at higherspeeds this will keep the air moving out of the engine bay and sucking the heat out with it, making the engine run cooler. You might have to adjust the hood latch a bit if it doesn't lock down after you fit the hinge spacers. It also helps with engine heat a low speeds too.

always working

Isn't all the air cold in Cleveland

You might want a snorkel, the air is colder the farther away from the pavement and you get a little ram air effect

do they make normal cold-air intakes for an gen 1 3.0L? My dad has an 06 wrangler and his Quadratech catalog has an entire two pages of coldair intakes.

has anyone done this to a gen 1 ?
If so do you have any pictures? I kinda like the idea, however unsure how it would look on a monty.

I just looked at some pics of cherokees with this mod and they looks weird. Wouldn't it look better and work a lot better to make some vents in the hood or even a small scoop? Does anyone know if you can notice a power difference at all?

an electric motor ducted to the filter inlet and a manual switch you can hit when are on the highway, or think of some other automatic control

I dont have the smarts or money try something like this. your airflow meter (that ugly thing inside the filter- costs about 400 dollars) probably has a range within which it works. Exceeding that range might not be too good.

A new filter set- those K and N might be just as good.

I dont know. I just wanted to get this thread headed back to your question

you kids need to slow those jalopy's down !

okay disregard that. I see:

Now it makes sense why they were saying a scoop to get more air to filter.

Duh.

Placing and engine compartment exhaust at the base of the windshield can make for some funny flows at speed. This tends to be a high pressure area (cowl induction bowties for examp) as the air dams up against the windshield.
