Need a Spot
I have an 87 SWB. Has only 107k orig. Last week started making a tappit kind of noise like it was low in oil( only like 1/2 qt.) Couldn't pinpoint exact location of the noise then the next day on the freeway I let off the gas and it dies. It compression started no problem but now the tap had become a clang bang....Pulled into closest parking lot and shut it off. I've got it home now.I am hopeing that someone here could toss out some ideas before I tare apart. And either go in the wrong direction or waste my time.

Thanks!!

Mudrunner
maybe a chain tensioner or guide? Removing the valve cover will let you look down the front cover with a flash light.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Check & see the silent shaft chain is still there? there is an adjustment for chain tensioner. If there's no oil pressure could be the chance of the silent shaft chain being broke or jumped of spockets
