i've found an 87 jeep wagoneer, it's not in bad shape, and the only thing it needs is the front axle rebuilt. the guy is willing to let it go for 600 bucks. i personally don't know much about jeeps, except most of it's history during WWII, and would appreciate an honest answer as to wether or not i'm getting a good deal. i currently own a kia sportage(recently rolled it), and have a couple of friends that own cherokee's. i guess my moronic question to start is that since these trucks share the same chassis, won't the aftermarket lifts and most parts interchange? like i said, i don't know much about jeeps, and you can rag me about it if you like, but i'm tired of chasing aftermarket lifts and performance parts that don't exist. thus the reason i'm looking at this wagoneer. thanks in advance for any help, turtle.

Body Damage is Cool
Some of the FSJ guys here can probably give the exact answer, but I believe that the Jeep Wagoneer chassis is different than the Jeep Cherokee chassis.

If the engine, transmission, transfer case, and rear axle are all OK, and the engine runs, and the body is not falling off due to rust, I think it would surely be worth $600.

Yeah! What Bob said and also rebuilding a front end is rare indeed! I think I would do my own testing to see just what IS wrong with it! The guy may not have a clue..

well the guy has already taken the front pumpkin apart. so basically, it's a hollow tube in front. he has all the parts to put it together, he just doesn't have the money or time. i plan on buying it tomorrow, because i looked up the differences after my post last night. the wagoneer and cherokee for those years were both on the XJ chassis. the grand wagoneer was a full size jeep on a frame. i forgot to mention that the truck already has a 3" rancho lift spring setup in front and lift blocks in the rear. so most of the hard work is done already. the engine runs and tranny shifts out fine, and the rear end doesn't look like the factory rear. it may have been replaced at one point or another. either way, once it's at my house, the front and rear axles are getting rebuilds with lockers and new gear sets. i haven't figured out what new gears i want to run yet, but i'll keep everyone posted on it. thanks again, turtle.
