Getting the Wheeling Fever
I noticed today while sitting at a light that my oil pressure guage was bottoming out and fluttering and the light was coming on. I checked the oil and it was fine. At cruising speed it seems fine at about 29 psi but at idle it drops all the way. Can I use a higher viscosity oil to help this or do I have big problems. It is a 93 rodeo 3.2. Any help would be much apreciated.

I'd get a second opinion, from a mechanical gauge.

Yeah you only need about 10 pounds of oil pressure per 1000 RPMs.

x2 on the mechanical gauge.

it could be the gauge or sender, but the fact that the idiot light is coming on is trouble; it's a different sender (switch) and it seems to be confirming your gauge.

stop driving it until you can check it out with the recommended proverbial gauge. such low oil pressure, whether from a failing oil pump or from some other problem, can cause all sorts of damage even sitting there at idle. that idiot light comes on at some rediculously low psi.
