I'm sure you've all seen the D ring mount that goes in your rear 2in receiver. Well, I saw a truck driving down the road yesterday that had a D ring mounted through the hole you would normally put the ball in on a regular ball mount. Anyone see a problem with this? Or are you better off springing for the actual D ring mount? My ball mount is rated for a 5000lb pull, so would putting a D ring through the hole be safe?

Just wondering...

Chris

If I understand the question correctly.... I would say no. The ball mount is rated according to its function, which is being bolted down tight. A D-ring ( and this is where I got lost) is bolted but pivots and moves causing stress friction that ball mount might not handle.

Better safe that sorry, right?

Who uses a d-ring ? ....The farmer who pulls me out of his corn field with a tractor

You understood it correctly, and your answer makes sense... I was just curious. I was driving across Iowa on Sunday and saw a D-Ring mounted that way and it just made me wonder...
