A few weeks ago, my radiator fan kicked in and stayed engaged. I got out, popped the hood, turned it back and forth by hand, freed it up; when I got home I sprayed it with penetrating oil to limp it along few more weeks. I was going to take the time out to convert to an electric fan, but this is my busy season and I haven't had the time. Yesterday, I checked the fan clutch, and it was getting alot of play in it, and little pieces of metal were starting to work their way out of the bearing
Sooo... I called the stealership. Bob Rohrman in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Talked to the shop, told them that they replaced the fan under warranty about a year ago. They said, "bring it in, and we'll take care of it. 10:00 am tomorrow will be fine.
Well, I sent my wife up with the Kia, this morning (since I'm not allowed on the lot -- was asked to leave a while back, but that's another story ) They pulled it in, and called me about 12:30 pm, wanting to know again what my problem was. I said, "the thermal clutch is bad, broke, damaged, not working, #@cked up." The woman replied, "I can't put that into the computer, I need a description of what it is doing."
About 1:30 pm, my wife called me from the waiting room, and said, (1) its not under warranty, (2) its been on the diagnostics for 2 hours, (3) it's a bad thermal clutch -- DUH!
I said screw it -- get the thermal clutch/fan, bring it home and I'll put it on. $125.00 for the part, $130.00 labor if they install it, cost me $35.00 for "diagnostics" when I told them what was wrong with it to start.($70.00 before I raised hell).
Don't ya just Love them people?
