Need a Spot
I have a 2003 tacoma. I want to chop off the bed and replace it with a tube frame and roll cage. I know that I will need and fuel cell and place to mount lights and a plate. I have a basic idea of how I want it to turn out. The only questions that I have are: Are there any recommendations for what size tube I should use (OD and thickness, I want to use an aluminum alloy?) I live in North Carolina and I am wondering about the legalities of not having a rear bumper? Has anyone else looked into doing this or have any suggestions?

Aluminum for a rear cage/chasis? You sure you don't mean Chromoly steel? I would think 1.75" DOM would be sufficient since it sounds like you are just doing this for a trail rig, not a competition rig. I guess if you want to dump the money into 4130 Chromoly, be my guest, though i can't see any benefit for your situation. Sounds like a huge project to me. That's gonna require a lot of expensive tools and a lot of fabrication skills to do it correct.

Good Luck
