howdy all,..... I resently purchased a 92 Rodeo (not running) it was a repo and i paid $350 for it,... don't laugh. The guy that had it said it wasn't getting fuel
I checked and it is getting fuel. I replaced a fuse that controlled the injectors and they started working and I got it cranked yesterday but it idles rough and only stays running if you keep you foot on the pedal,.. Someone told me it may be a map sensor. Then after reading the forums it could be loose wire. Where would be the best place to start hunting the problem? maybe a EGR valve? any good places to go and look at wire diagrams or scymatics?

oh btw when it cranks it spits spudders and backfires through the carb,...

1st, there's no carb. It's TBI. 2nd, I'd check the idle control motor. It screws into the side of the throttle body and has a square 4 pin connector on it. Should be on the driver side. Sounds like it's not working like it should. MAP shouldn't be causing that, IMO.

ok i finally got a chance to work on my Rodeo,..... While truning the key i can hear that Idle control motor clicking,.. I didn't exactly know how to go about checking it out to see if it was working,... Do they make a TBI rebuild kit?,.. Also shouldn't gas start coming out of fuel line when i turn on the key? I wasn't this weekend,..

After looking around under the hood i found that it looks as if someone hit something with the front end, pushed the bumper in on the pass side,... I'm thinking my be a pinched wire in the wiring harnes that runs down that side,.. I read somewhere that if the on board computer is not gettin the corect info it will go into a safe mode and the Isuzu will not run good at all,... any other sensors that may be causing this? I like to have lost it,.. i poured gas down the TBI and it back-fired thru the TBI and caught fire,.... any help will be appreciated

Sorry <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />but let's not do that again,ok? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Pull off the connectors on top of the TBI should be 2 two wire connectors, make sure they aren't oily/greasy.

Check the fireing order of the wires,to ensure they are on the right plugs.

Not exactly sure on the TBI models but you should have fuel pressure at the TBI unit, when key is turned on.

If not check the relay under the hood in the fuse box, replace it with the ac one or something.

If not look on top of the fuel tank and check for loose wires.Going into top of tank, especially the ground wire.

Just a few things to check.

Goodluck
