On a YJ with no body lift, the minimum recommended lift is 5". This can be done with the traditional leaf springs or with a coil over conversion. Depending on the weight of your rig you may wish to go with a taller lift kit or with a body lift. Keep in mind your ring and pinion and or power plant may also need to be upgraded to keep those big wheels turning.

instead of a 5" lift could i get a 4" and then a 1" body lift.
would that still allow the placement of the tires on my vehicle?

Getting the Wheeling Fever
a 4 inch lift with body trimming works great.

Body Damage is Cool
I would recommend fender trimming with a little less lift. It will help keep your center of gravity lower. Then again not everyone is willing to cut up their body.

would a 4" lift with the bushwacker fenders and trimmed body fit the 35" tires?

If you're talking about the Bushwacker cut-out flares, then the answer is probably yes. You could go ahead and do the 4" suspension lift, cut the fenderwells and install the Bushwacker cutout flares, and see if you have enough clearance. The front tires will be the most problematic. Make sure you get it to full compression with the wheels turned each way.

If that's enough, then fine. If it's not, you can always install a 1" body lift later.

Another option is to go with a 3" suspension lift and a 2-inch body lift. The taller body lift means you have to watch more things during installation, but it also means a somewhat lower of center of gravity, and less likelihood of driveline vibration with a 3" suspension lift rather than a 4" lift.

Wheeler
I've posted this before, but just to change my body mounts (I went to Prothanes) was a NIGHTMARE.

There are threaded metal blocks INSIDE of the body that are otherwise inaccessable if the body mount bolt breaks or is too dang rusted to get out. I ended up having to cut into the body to get 4 of them out and just used grade 8 hardware to replace the blocks.

A job I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy!!!

hey if i installed a 4" lift kit with half inch lift shackles that would be 4.5 inches of lift; would this allow the fitment of 34" tires or do i still need 5 inches of lift?
