Need a Spot
Hi, I have a 89 SR5 4x4 that was working fine til the battery went dead and it sat for a while. Put a new battery in and now no power when the ignition switch is turned on. The headlights and other things work but nothing off the switch. Git another ignition switch but still nothing. Anybody know if there is a fuse or something in between? When I jump the wire off the ignition wire harness the ignition comes on.

Body Damage is Cool
The fuse for that is in the driver's side kickpanel - to the left of the pedals. Definently sounds like it could be your problem.

X2........Sounds like a fuse. Had the same thing just happen. Test the fuses with a continuity tester. Even if they look good always doesnt mean they are.

not same year(1980) but same problem. I had to replace my ignition switch and a relay on the driver side kick panel.
my problem happened when I left the positive cable off the starter that I had to change out. My only way to get to the parts store was to pop the clutch with the starter out to get it replaced. I forgot all about the cable....well, on my way home it grounded out and blew the ignition switch and a relay. simple mistake that cost me a weekend of no wheeling trying to figure out what the problem was. I took out my whole dash apart. I had wires all over the place. Two days of fustration...just to have a friend come over pinpoint my problem in a few minutes. The relay looked fine on the outside...but I popped it open to see that it was fried up inside.
post up when you fix the problem.

had a similar problem with my 91 and mine turned out to be the circuit opening relay located behind the passenger side kick panel, you can check it by jumping it on the diagnostic port under the hood.
