Will a TPS from a '90 work on a '88?

not for the 4cyl or v6... they had a production date split 3/89, 2 different part #'s

Body Damage is Cool
Just because they have diff part numbers doesn't necessarily mean they won't work. I mean, I certainly would not spend money on the different one, but if say a buddy of yours is giving it to you for free I'd say its worth your time to try it out.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I have a 04-89' truck and as was stated above there are two different part numbers. I could never get it adjusted and it would throw codes with the early part number but once I switched to the later number all was good.

FWIW, I'm using a TPS from a 89 or 90 toyota camry on my 86 22RE 4Runner. It's been in there for 3yrs and no problems yet.

I don't see a difference in older vs. newer parts. If it has the same connectors, it should work. You'll still have to calibrate it. If you have a pick 'n pull near you, just take your old TPS with you to match. As I recall, most TPS from toyota cars will fit the trucks/4Runners.

wait a second !!!!

i'm having real problems with my fuel economy .. replaced almost every sensor .. EVERYTHING ..

everyone has pointed me back to the TPS .

so today .. I did some changin'' I had the Original throtle body , which I cleaned , and thought I would set it up .. as per the factory specs .

problem is .. I cant get a consistant reading on the meter , because of the throttle shaft movement . my throttle body is toast .. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" />

so I check all 3 that I have .. same thing .. I check the supra throttlebody im building .. no play . DANG ..it's perfect ...

so I check with toyota .. part # 22210-35150 replacement .. NO LONGER AVALIABLE ... this sucks ..

so .. sorry for the long wind ..

check your throttle shaft for play , before you go out and buy a TPS .. you may just be waisting your money ..

ohhh .. buy the way .. I have 3 good TPS's

They actually changed the part numbers in the last, maybe, five years. Call several Toyota dealers until you get the new number. Even some parts houses have the numbers cross referenced. I got my Denso TPS from CarQuest Auto Parts in Kansas City. Factory Denso, that was $3.00 more than the dealer, but I got it on a Sunday.

Exellent trouble shooting there CJM. You may have just stumbled upon the most common cause of rough - erratic running in a 22re

I just had the throttle shaft on the carb on my 68' f250 4X re-bushed. Runs like new , no misses , no flat spots and will idle perfectly at 400rpm's

Has anyone ever done this on a 22re throttle body???
