Getting the Wheeling Fever
dear all :
I really need your valuable comment for my Monty. couple question and here is the story.
my battery always mesure high voltage more than 16V. So,I think the voltage regulator of Alternator is gone. already have a new alternator to replace the old one. this is not causing me the problem yet. the current problem is "I can not start my truck". when you turn the key over, just have quick clicking sound no start. if you try couple times, then the battery voltage will drop to 9V. then if I disconnect the battery(-) cable, and reconnect it again. the voltage will go back to 12.6V. I also jump from my Nissan Altima, same thing clicking no start. this happen after I did not close all the doors properly and interior lights cause my battery out of power. I recharge the battery and re connect the battery cables. and turn the key to "on" position for couple hours for dinner. so, when I come back to start the car and just clicking sound and no start.

I search in this forum, and find the following possibile reasons.

1. bad battery cable.
2. bad starter or solenoid.
3. alarm (seems not the problem, I unplug 20A fuse and turn the key to "on" and put the fuse back, still the same.
4. bad battery (seems not the problem, because I jump from my Nissan Altima, and still the same.)

By the way, I just replace spark plugs couple days ago. after replace them, I ty to start my car several time, and it works fine.
can any of you give me a direction ? I will try to verify if the start or solenoid is bad.

thanks in advance.

thank you for your quick respond. But, I also jump from my Nissan Altima and still the same problem. clicking no start. that's is why I think the battery is not the main issue.

If battery is truly dead it will take all the juice from Altima and starter will still make click, click....
Swap a battery from you Altima for true test. Otherwise it might be a bad ground or + on stater solenoid.

Clean the battery posts and cables first, before you replace them.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

Yep, there is a $4 tool at Advance and Walmart to do this, or a wirebrush works fine.. I second the notion that the battery could be completly shot, or your jumper cables could be bad also. I had a pair that would work, but not 1--%, I had to get another pair to be able to jump my monty that was completly dead once.

I exchange to the battery of Altima, and it start right the way. however I check the voltage of the battery, it is over 17V. I am afraid my alternator burn this battery too.

another stuip question, where is the check window of A/C freon level ? I found the freon receiver just in front of radiator. with a cap mark "H" and there is no window glass at all.

anyway, really appreciate your help.

Dick

What do you use to check voltage. If it's one of those cheap digital multi-meters beware they are ofter not good at all. I've one it always showed something like 16v. Used good ol analog - about 14v a lot better. It also showed my AA batteries with 1.8-1.9v as well.

My Gen I volt gauge on the dash always shows between 15v-16v, but when I test at the battery i show 14.6 using a good dvom and the same using my dads old old old analog volt meter. Always best to check at the battery.
