2.6L Intake Gasket Problem #802133 04/02/07 11:37 PM

Need a Spot
I rebuit my 1992 2.6L after the head gasket blew out and have been struggling with an oil leak from the bottom-middle of the intake manifold.

In the lower-middle of the engine bock side of the intake there is a small hole insde a small square cavity leading to an oil drain from the top of the engine. On the Intake manifold side there is nothing - just flat metal. The intake gasket has an open square in this area and I keep getting an oil leak from this spot.

The small access hole to the oil drain (under no pressure) appears to have absolutly no function on the intake manifold. Baffled?

1) Anyone else have this hole on their engine block?
2) Any suggestions for plugging it up as I am going on my 3rd intake manifold gasket in 1 year?

Thanks

Body Damage is Cool
ALL THE 4 CYL ENGS HAVE THIS DRAIN BACK HOLE , IT IS FROM THE CYL HEAD TOP AND GOES ALL THE WAY THUR THE HEAD INTO THE BLOCK AND BACK TO THE CRANKCASE, UNLESS YOU HAVE A BLOCKAGE IN THE HEAD GASKET OR THE BLOCK ITSELF IT SHOULD JUST DRAIN STRAIGHT THRU, I HAVE SEEN A FEW AFTERMARKET HEAD GASKETS THAT WERE NOT DRILLED AT THIS POINT, WHAT YOU CAN DO WHEN YOU REMOVE THE INTAKE AGAIN IS MAKE A GASKET OUT OF BRASS SHIM STOCK ABOUT .020 THOUSANDS THICK, JUST ABOUT 1/8 LARGER THAN THE OPENING IN THE GASKET , YOU WANT THE GASKET OF BRASS TO CVR THE OPENING ,PUT A THIN COATING OF RTV ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BRASS AND THEN REINSTALL THE NEW GASKET ON TOP OF THE BRASS, AND THE LEAK WILL GO AWAY,JERRY

Thanks Jerry! I am glad to hear that this hole is on all blocks. The hole looks like it was ground out and not drilled - rough looking.

I will try the brass shim.
