Need a Spot
i just bought a 94 zj with a 6" rancho lift and 35" bf muds. runs perfect but needs brakes. when i bought it there was no brake fluid. i got the rig for $800 so i decided to get all new brakes and not hassle with anything. now i have new booster, master, perportion valve, calipers, rotors, pads, drums, etc... except brake lins. i thought i could blow them out and reuse them. well since there was a lot of rust i snaped one. i tried all local parts stores and dealers. i keep getting told its metric and discontinued.

i was wondering if anyone knew where i could get aftermarket lines wether steal or stainless. i just wanna drive the thing already. any help would be great thanks!

Take the broken one for the nut thread and go to ANOTHER parts house.. YES you should be able to find steel lines that will interchange. You will have to bend them yourself but that is easy.

you can buy a roll of steel line and rent the double flaring tool or buy pre flanged lengths with the ends on them. 4' is probably the longest length in the pre flared bin so you might have to use couplings if going that route. if you rent the tool just make sure that 1)the cut on the pipe is square and free of burrs 2) the tool is square on the pipe 3)the nuts are on the pipe and in the right direction before doing the second one 4)the line is blown out with the compressor before installing.

once you source your parts you'll be pleased at the ease of changing the lines and will be glad that you broke one.

HUSH Tom! The lives of him and everyone on the hiway depend on the flares! First timers have no business flaring brake lines!!!
Around here I can buy made up lines up to 6 feet at most parts houses. A double female will get just about any length he needs.

DMan...they usually come in lengths up to 60" or 5 ft. They also come in metric threading. You're line is 3/16ths so you'll prolly need a couple brake unions (3/16") to connect the lines together. I hate doing brake lines...well, the bleeding end of it.

indeed jim, the flares must be perfect. are you thinking that an improper flare could cause a sudden complete failure? i was thinking that the system would just never bleed properly or leak down slowly. couplings make me cringe. i'd rather see an ameture, fresh brake line job than old rusty ones coupled together any day.
