Does the transfer have to be removed from the tranny for the interlock pin to be removed? Im trying to do it while its still mounted to the tranny and I dont think it will work.

Probably can do it in the truck, use a flexible magnet to get into the hole and pull the pin. I did mine w/ the t-case out and it took several hours. Problem in my case was a freshly rebuilt case so the heavy assembly lube formed a suction that held the pin in place. I ended up getting a telescoping magnet (had to grind it down a little to fit into the hole) and slowly worked the pin loose. On a used case, with only gear oil up around the pin, it may come out easier.

I had to seperate the tranny and transfer. The shift fork on the transfer wouldnt go far enough foreward. I tried just cracking them apart and still not enough clearance. So I guess I answered my own question. Yep.... at least on this particular transmission/transfer...they had to be seperated to remove the interconnect pin.

You have to get at least one shift fork rod out to remove the interlock pin. No way to do that w/o at least partially diassembling the t-case, which is easier off the truck than on, IMHO.
