I borrowed my father-in-laws new F-350 to pull out shrub stumps the other day from the front of my house. Of course, his truck was yanking 'em out like they weren't even there (600 ft-lbs. of torque sure is nice!!!).

Sooo...he asks me how I think the Jeep would pull them out and I said I wasn't sure. So we hook the tow strap to the Jeep, and I start pulling...in 4-low...and start spinning my tires. Then I backed up and hammered it and the Heep just violently stopped as the slack in the strap was taken up. It was PATHETIC!!!! After about 8 all-or-nothin' pulls, I start to smell CLUTCH!!! and the stump finally pulled out. Man, that thing couldn't pull my zipper down!!! Poor little thing.

Look at the weight difference between the F-350 and your YJ. It is more a matter of not having enough weight to get the traction to pull the stump than not having the b@lls to pull it out.

I loaded down a M151 MUTT while in the Army with 50 lb fertilizer bags. I don't remember how many there were, but the rear seat was pulled out and the back end was completely loaded along with the passenger floor board and even a few on top of the seat.

When I got to the drop off point, we were unable to back up to the ramp so I put it in 4-lo and climbed 4 steps to the top of the dock so we could unload.

Little 4 popper with 5 something:1 gearing.

As they say, you're comparing apples with oranges. The big Ford diesel is made for pulling but it cannot compare with the Jeep for off road ability. Let the Ford do the heavy pulling and save your clutch!
