Getting the Wheeling Fever
This may sound like a silly question but, I was wondering... How the Automatic tranny works with the motor. Does the automatic tranny detect the RPM's from the motor then decide to shift and down shift or does the Main computer to the motor tell the transmission to shift. Does the transmission monitor the fuel pedal position, for instance, when you floor it then it down shifts? May sound like a silly question to all you veterans, But I am not a veteran, thanks in advance.....!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/drunk.gif" alt="" />

On tiyr 90, tou have a transmission computer that gets signals from your ECU, A/C, power steering & others.
The ECU sends a digital signal to the trans computer & the trans gets controled from there.

Some of the above info is not quite accurate.

The only electrically-controlled part of a Gen I auto trans is the overdrive solenoid. Otherwise, it's all done through hydraulics in the trans. There is a TV cable to signal the "throttle position" to the trans, but again, it's a hydraulic/mechanical thing, not electric.
