Getting the Wheeling Fever
Last night I went to start my truck and as I turned the key to the start position everything went dark. Nothing works. The lights won't come on, the radio doesn't work, the dome light doesn't work and of course it won't start either. When I first turned the ignition all of the dash lights came on and the dome light lit when I opened the door as well before I turned the ignition to the start position. Any ideas? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> Thanks.

Last week the radio just quit working out of the blue. Then 4 days later it started working again. Could they be related?

Check the power and ground connections off of the battery, might be some corrosion.

Thanks. Ya I checked that last night and they look fine. Also checked all of the fuses and they are ok as well.

Well then, grab a volt meter and start looking for the source of the voltage drop.

Body Damage is Cool
Make sure you triple check all the battery connections, bad connections can be sneaky sometimes. Also check the 80A fuse in the fuse block under the hood. Thats the only fuse that kills absolutely everything.

Look fine?

Try taking a wrench to the terminal. It is loose.

Thanks guys. You were all exactly right. Even though everything looked clean I cleaned them anyways and it started right up. Sure seemed like a much more complicated problem when it happened though. Thanks again!

I'm usually the same when it comes to trouble shooting. Always look for the bigger problem rather than checking all the simple problems first... lol
