has a lot of carbon built up under the head. What do you think is the best way to remove it all besides scraping it?
Also, would it be worth it to remove the engine and rebuild it that way?

Note: I don't think she's ever been overhauled.

If it ain't broke don't FIX it!!
Them old things had bout maybe 7 to 1 compression anyway! Leaving it alone will prolly improve it. The things will burn the lowest octane ever found anywhere.

93 the engine in them was at least 10 years older than they are. I'm not gonna look it up but I betcha it is at least 70 years old by now.

The engine is actually from a '42 Jeep. I need to find out why it's burning a lot of oil(blue smoke out of the exhaust). I'm hoping it's just the rings or head gasket and not a cracked block or head. I'm going to replace the gasket, rings, and get the head checked for cracks. Hopefully that will solve it! Any ideas?

First guess is the valves are not sealed properly. That is the ONLY place I'd be taking things apart.
You gotta remember them old engines smoked from the factory! If the thing runs ok I'd be leaving it ALONE! If the plugs don't fowl and it gets up the trail be thankful and stay out from under the hood.

If you are actually going to take the engine apart, I would be looking at the block for cracks, not so much the head. A buddy of mine is doing a CJ2 or 3 with the little Godevil 4 cyl flat head in it, and he had cracks in the block from the waterjacket to the outside, and between areas of the waterjacket, nothing to the cylinders or valves though.
