Body Damage is Cool
Alrite well this is dumb that it happened at 42,500 miles but anyhow.

Check engine light I checked the code.
Says
P0136
02 sensor
circuit malfunction
(bank 1 sensor 2)

Toyota wants 75 bucks for the diagnosis plus like 250 or somethen for a sensor if thats the problem. *sigh* what do the broke ppl do in this case? Is there a cheaper solution? And which sensor is this one?

Thanks, Crash

I could be wrong here, but I believe that sensor 2 is to the rear of the catalytic converter. They are very very very easy to replace yourself (especially if it's the rear), just make sure you let the truck cool down for an hour or so before attempting. I'd suggest sticking with an O2 from the dealership, just to be safe. You wouldn't want to go to AutoZone or Napa and have them sell you a Bosch...

There really isnt anything "easy" about the possitioning of the rear sensor unless you cut out that shield to get at the bolts.

I don't know how your truck is set up, but I know that the rear O2 sensor on mine sits about 4 inches downstream of the cat on the exhaust tube. You spray some penetrating lube, wait a few minutes, take out 2 bolts, replace the O2 sensor and supplied crush gasket, then put the whole thing back in. The front one requires a little talent and some limber wrists (since it's far up on the headers), but it's definitely not too hard.
The only shield I see on mine is the heat shield on the cat, which you shouldn't even need to get close to when changing the O2 sensors. If there's another shield down there, it shouldn't be too hard to unbolt....
Maybe your '03 has a different setup, but I was able to replace both O2s on my '99 in about 30 minutes without a hitch. Take another look, and write back if you run into trouble!
