Roll Me Over
Hey guys, i FINALLY got my tube bender and everything, so i'm about 90% done my front bumper, i still need to finish the winch mount and a few other small things, and paint it, but here are some pics for you guys.
It's built with 1 3/4" HREW and a Pro-tools 105 bender and notcher... welder is a lincoln 175amp TIG...
If anyone (in ontario) needs some tube work done feel free to PM me.

Let me know what you think....
(btw winch mount is not on yet, (dont have a winch) so it's just mocked up, and it's not painted yet (still deciding on powdercoat, urethane or tremclad )

Also, a set of hella 500's are going to be mounted on the tabs welded to the stinger braces...

Greg

Next is the rear bumper, then side steps.
Oh, i also know i need some more mounting points... it's going to be braced to the winchmount when im done, i just cant figure out any mounts going from the top two bars, to the frame.

Hope you like it!

Looks like a good start, I like the two inner curved tubes, (a little style). However, as you mentioned, you do need more mounting points. I'd say at least one on each side. I'm sure the two mounting plates are thick but with nothing behind them, a good smack will probably bend them backwards. Here's how I ran my lateral supports. I even allowed them to bolt up to the factory holes that mount the tow points. Keep up the good work.

looks good !!! i'm planning to build one for mine sometime soon. i got an ARB but if i knew then what i know now i would have fabbed up my own a long time ago but it was "casino" money so it didn't really bother me to spend some of it on an ARB front bumber. i might even narrow the ARB when i dovetail my front end. who knows??? keep the pics coming!!!

looks good 'ey. i agree with the 4xjedi though, you may try to add a couple of tubes comin up from the tow points area (if you want bolt on) to the upper bars if possible or try to utilize a set of holes further back on the frame. my uncle has a similiar setup on the front of his '85 p/u and he tied his front tube bumper into some custom shock towers that he welded to the frame. never done what you're doin but i was workin on a design for my '94 and on my frame there are a couple sets of holes in the wheel area that i was going to try and utilize. nice '86. TIG = nice lookin welds too.

Thanks for the tips and replies,
we were actually having a problem with our TIG so a lot of the welds are not as good as they should have been, then the last bar we put on, absolutely no problems, cant figure it out. We got a new miller too, and it's the bomb, might use it on the rear bumper.... My cousin is doing all the welding and calculations, i'm around for hard labour (bending the tube) and making sure everythings going ok

x2 Nice artistic flair. Is this your design or your cousin's? 4runner is sweet too. -- Matt

Actually the design came from this truck captkirktoyota's and basically we modified it to look better with the lines of the runner (more square and less round) and my cousin did the dual tubes at the sides (which is fully tig'd on the inside, strong and super clean) that was purely his design. The rear bumper and sliders will be built to match as well.

Only concern would be approach angle down low in particular. Looks like you gave up more than you needed to for the winch?

Good lookin' Sheltie too! Got a blue merle little girl in our house, Anna MacKay.
