Just wondering if later years will bolt up to the same transmission. I had a 2.6 auto and would like to maybe go with a v-6 if possible. Let me know what will go in with minimal changes.

You definitely should do a search on this topic as it has been discussed ad nauseum. In short, though, anything other than the same engine will require custom fabrication and wiring. It is never easy and rarely cheap. I'm going through this myself right now.
Welcome to the Wire and I hope a search will find what you need. If you need help with the search function, there are many that are old pros and will help you out.
Good luck!

well if you had the skills and resources to do a custom engine swap I would go for something with a little more guts than the 3L. I would love to put a Lexus V8 in my 89 LWB, maybe look into that. I don't have a clue what would be involved though.

Read the "Turbo Bible."
Dreams of V8s can be realized, but you'd better have some skills and a damn boat load of tools.
You can turbo your truck with hand tools and an engine hoist.
87 Montero, bought new, by me - 88/89 intercooled Starion Turbo engine- with awesome audio.

I say, if you have a 2.6 Auto, do the turbo !!! Best damn swap around !!!! I have one I did late 90's and runs like a bat outta hell !!!
If your looking for a turbo setup, my dad is selling his COMPLETE Starion setup for cheap that we pulled out of a running car but then we never converted his SWB...
Anyways.. I've also rebuild my SWB V6 (3.0) and made that on hell-of-a-engine.. that's a nice setup too.. but since you have the 4cyl.. you'll have to do a COMPLETE wiring swap, tranny swap, etc...
Domestic V6 / V8 swap... well it's been done, and I hear its noice.. but it's heavier, and "how" reliable is it... plus how much wrench time are we talking ???
Years before the swap is done? plus all the tinkering ?
Stick with the 2,6 Turbo.. you will NOT be disapointed.. and I know that you'll keep up with a 4.3 Cheby <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/nana.gif" alt="" />

So how much for the setup? mileage? Also, mine isn't completely gone but the bearings are making noise.

He doesn't have the entire engine, aka block.. we pulled everything else off to do a turbo conversion on "bluecar".. Hense intake-man, exhaust-man, turbo (smaller one for more boost at lower RPM!), both knock and main ECU computers, full wiring harnesses ( COMPLETE, and not botched.. I did this myself !).. fuel pump, all the oil cooler lines.. EVERYTHING that came basically from under the hood except the engine itself... my dad wants $250.. Thats it.. Try to piece together a turbo setup and look how expense they are now.... 4-5 times that much.. and this setup was running when we pulled it out of the car 4 years ago... Jason

I am interested in both the rebuilt engine in GA and the turbo setup. I would hate to insult you with a low offer, just let me know what you would take for the engine. And, as far as the turbo setup goes I am definitely interested in it, just give me a few weeks. If you get a chance to sell it don't wait on me. Thanks for your help guys.
