Getting the Wheeling Fever
a friend of mine put a 4.0 head and injection system on a 4.2(nothing new there) to install in his cherokee. once completed he called me and said the locating pins on the trans lined up and one bolt, but no others. i thought almost all the jeep motors were interchangeable? if i can put a 4.0 in my 89 4.2 wrangler, shouldnt he be able to put a 4,2 in his cherokee? the motor came from an 88 yj with the peugot. i think his cherokee is a 92...not sure. any help would be great

Did he replace a 4 banger with that engine? If so the tranny will not fit.

his cherokee had the 4.0 in it with an auto trans. he put his 4.0 head on the 4.2 taken from the 88 yj and tried to put it back in his cherokee. said the locating pins line up and one bolt, but none of the others. yj had a peugot

The adjustment in those pushrods is to purchase OVERSIZE rods. If he is hearing a clicking sound it may be the fuel injectors and not the valves..
Be very careful and do NOT install oversize rods for a lark! Make sure of the noise... Rods too long will burn valves..
