I opologize if you guys have had to answer this before, I did make make an attept to find info in the archives but couldn't find what I was looking for. Here is my question.
I recently purchased a 92 2.5L and am desperately trying to add 10-20 hp and dont have much money to do it with. I see that K&N does not make an intake for the 2.5L what do you consider the best intake for my vehicle? Also, I was thinking of purchasing an aftermarket muffler, perhaps a flowmaster 40 series, what do you recommend as far as performance mufflers?

Howdy shupp I am sad to be the bear'r of such bad news.. The things you asked about don't add horsepower! They are glamerous additions that make the buyer FEEL good. Perhaps they make the engine SOUND better but you won't have any more power after spending the money.
If you really want the little guy to run better take those big tires off of it and put the factory 26inchers back on there.
Advertised horsepower is always added at the very top end of the rpm range. If you can't get the rpm up to 5,000 you don't have more horsepower...
We are asked this question over and over again...always from guys with too big tires on the little guy.. The ONLY answer is $2000 or more for GEARS. You have 4:11's in there now and depending on the size tires you have you need to go lower to keep the rpm where the factory had it at hiway speed.

2.5's sound like shi* with a performance muffler. I had a dynomax super turbo on mine and it not only sounded like a honda fart can but gave no noticeable invrease in power.

2.5's are what they are!!! If you want more power get a 4.0

I appreciate your insight Jim, you have a great deal of knowledge there is no doubt. Given what you stated about your doubts concerning those products effectiveness do you (or anybody else reading this post) have any opinions on what brands or products might be better? Put another way if you were to purchase these products which would they be?

If I purchased ANY of them it would NOT be on the intake side of the engine. If I wanted my ride to sound like a ricer I'd go for the muffler bit! You will get a sound change not no gain from any of the things you mentioned.

I was hoping that a flowmaster 40 series or a similar muffler would add a deeper, more powerful sound. Is it your understanding that this would not be the case? I had a 40 series added to my 92 dodge stealth oddly enough and it provided me with a very deep sound.

Actually, money would be better spent on a complete tune up and new filters and oil change. This would at least show some minor improvement.
