Dang rear ends... My 87 4Runner's 4.10 rear diff is whining something fierce. I lost the original in 2001 to several broken teeth, now this one is whining loudly at speed, and grumbling during slow movement (used diff out of an 83 p/u that I got from another member here).

I wish I could afford some 4.56 or 4.88's, but I can barely afford another used rear end to throw in there.

I checked the F/S forums, but nothing seems to be currently available.

Anyone have a line on a used 4.56 stock set of diffs (7.5 front) for cheap? It's gonna cost upwards of $100 for shipping, so I need to find a good deal...

Sorry to here your rear 3rd is going out. I hope you don't hold it against the person you got it from. I will keep an eye out on a set, but no guarantees from Hawaii

Nah... I hold it against EB! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif" alt="" />

Yeah, ever since I EB'ed my 22RE, I can't keep my right foot out of it. The 83 22R put out 96 HP and 129 ft-lbs of torque. My engine it putting out somewhere in the range of 140-145 hp and 175-180 ft-lbs of torque. This early diff can't quite handle the task anymore.

I have put about 90,000 miles on it anyway, and I think the 83 had 160,000 miles (I can't remember what I was told 6 minutes ago, much less 6 years ago).

Nice subtle way of letting me know you are still around... I should have picked through your stash a little more while I had the chance.

Cryo the next rear you get. It makes a big improvement in strength and durability.

America's first fourwheel drive was built in Mankato, MN by Ernest Rosenburger in 1908 who founded Four-Traction Auto Co. on Hickory Street. The company though successful closed in 1913.
