I found an old isuzu 2wd pickup. It is from the 80s. It is growing weeds in a field. I looked at if very briefly and it is all there no missing parts. If I were to aquire said truck. What are the goods and the bads of these trucks? I would like to turn it in to a comuter car. What is a non running diesel isuzu worth? How is cost/avalibility of parts?

Thanks For any answers.

PS There is a sticker on the cab that says MPG Plus. I am guessing up to 40mpg is possible is that right?

I wasn't sure about the MPG plus so I Googled it and found this http://www.greensborogasprices.com/...2&topic=139576&page_no=1
The other place to look which is solely about the Pup is http://www.isuzupup.com/ Some of the same people are here as well.

You may have found a jewel amongst the weeds. The MPG carried the best fuel economy rating of the Isuzu diesel P'ups. It did this by virtue of a 4 spd gearbox and a 3.42 rear end as compared to the more popular 5 spd with a 3.73 rear end. The 5 spd overdrive is not as efficient in 5th gear as the 4 spd is in 4th.

If all is there, I think you can probably get it running. And yes, 40 mpg is possible if driven modestly.

What would you pay for a non running diesel pup?

Wouldn't like to say without inspecting it. If the truck is in decent shape and the motor can be turned over smoothly and has compression and no water in the oil, I would say there is a good chance that it will run with some TLC. Best thing is to get it running if you can and then make an offer.

I have an 81 PuP..Chevy LUV. 5 Sped, 2.2 diesle. Ilove it. One thing tonote is the frame and body rust.
The frames are, unfortunately, famous for very very bad rusting. So far I have welded up over 60% of mine back together.
Aside fromt hat they are a tough littel turck, just the right size for most anything. Note the max payload is in the area of 1100 pounds.
Use engine oil in the tranny...not gear oil and never overspeed the engien. 3500 is redline.
I hve 220K on mive and wouldn't trade it for anything (except an identicle brand new one!!)
Enjoy.

Heck I wouldn't wait to see if it runs to offer something for it.
That will take all the fun out of it.
Besides it's a small diesel vehicle,
if the multitude of diesel and biodiesel fanatics catch wind of a Lil Pup
in the field the price will get out of reach before you know what happened.
Offer them $500.00 this way you aren't letting on what it is really worth.

Over on the Peugeot-l Yahoo groups there is a discussion
about a guy who offered $3200.00 for a 1985 STI 505 turbo diesel
and he was out bid by someone else who saw it.
That's $3200.00 for a 23 year-old French car that you can't find parts for.
Go figure.
