Getting the Wheeling Fever
After shuting off the engine, coolant is exiting the overflow resevior. Gurgling sound and then the coolant loss. Even after a relatively short trip around the corner.

I put in a new OEM thermostat. Problem still exists. Exhaust leaking through the HG perhaps? Thoughts? Thanks

It's a good possibility. Mine did that esp when ran hard, Than one day she just completely let go. Now I have nice new clearwater NEW casting heads. I live in florida so I drove to clearwater. Cost 481 bucks with exchange. Nice people But they ticked me off when they found out I was doing this myself-the guy started acting like a jerk and said I should leave it to the "professionals". <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

you know...the last couple outings we have been on....when i really power the engine up a nasty hill ....or when i was jammmin up sand dunes too fast .....the raiders temp guage goes into the upper 3/4 area ....gurgling and coolant loss thru resevoir also ...seemed ok rest of day

I drive the vehicle very hard but this seemed odd.

how do you verify a blown head gasket??....a leak down test?...only about 60,000 miles on rebuilt motor

I thought I read something about a coolant test you could do for exhaust. I could quite possibly be on crack, but...

I'm sure one of the gurus will chime in and help you out.

If a friend has a radiator pressure tester, you can use that to check for overpressure. Otherwise, you need an expensive kit to sense hydrocarbons in the coolant.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
My hunch is that exhaust is presuring the coolant, and releases a cup or two of coolant after shutting off the engine. The temp guage has always read normal.

Anybody know a good Mits mechanic near the Wasatch front (wanted to ask for a long time)?

Thanks
Tim

Run truck, make sure the pressure is out of the rad (very important or you could burn yourself bad), open ,and smell. I could smell the exhaust in my rad. I could also see black stuff floating in coolant. I had to do the head gaskets on both of my Monteros. One I would lose coolant through the overflow when running on interstate. Fine around town.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.
