Pretty sure I need a new clutch. Month or 2 ago, this noise started, only when you weren't pushing in the clutch, a kind of hum. Then first gear started to hum a bit, got a little worse and so on. Now the tranny hums like a mofo in 1st 2nd 3rd, not really 4th that i can tell, and maybe a little of 5th.

I believe the problem is the throwout bearing, but id need to replace the entire clutch anyway. Is this the case?

Called Autozone to check prices on clutch kits, guy said there is 2 types of trannys and ill need to see which I have, but he gave me the prices on both, on was like 280 the other 380 or so. How do I tell which one I have? Are these prices good? Should I check anywhere else (suggestions)?

What do I need to do to remove, or better yet drop the tranny enough to put in the new clutch kit? Remove driveshaft, the shifters, what else?

Finally a few other questions. Myself and a friend of mine would be doing the labor, I dont have a job right now and I trust myself with the work more than a shop.
How long do you think it will take, bright and early am to dark?
How can I tell how much longer until my clutch shits out on me?
What driving style should I practice to get the longest time left on this clutch? Shift at about 2k or so? I know take it easy, and since 4th gear seems the safest should I just try to shoot for that gear and cruise, rather than 3rd?

Thanks guys, this isnt the first time ive asked for help here, wont be the last!

one way to tell is if the throw out bearing snaps into the clutch you have the expensive one. You can remove the plate in the bottom and look into the hole if you see a metal ring on the pressure plate it is the expensive one.

YOU might want to talk to jerry Lemond on the parts. He can might be able to get you isuzu factory parts. On the clutch job, it will take a full day to pull the tranny and replace. You'll likely want to replace the rear main seal. While you are in there. To pull the pilot bearing, you might want to buy one of the cheapo harbor freight slide hammers.

THERE IS ONLY ONE TRANSMISSION USED ON THE RODEOS V6 AND IT DOES USE THE PULL TYPE CLUTCH SETUP, , THE ONLY ONE THAT WOULD BE DIFF WOULD BE THE 4 CYL, , COMPLETE 4 PIECE FACTORY CLUTCH SETUP WOULD BE ABOUT 320.00 PLUS THE FREIGHT FROM ATLANTA , JERRY

GUESS WHAT. It went around may 1st. I need My truck! Got a clutch kit and trannys on the ground.

Background info:

"I was driving home from akron tonight at about 8, had cruise control set at 70mph going north on 77. all of a sudden the truck putters a little bit and then starts making noise, and had a bad burnt clutch smell. pulled over, checked the belts ans realised it was the clutch. i got her going again, and 5th gear was *****, so u kept it in 4th. got off the highway at the parma/seven hills exit and never stopped all the way to my house. put on the blinkers and jammed the horn through big intersections like broadview and pleasent valley, ridge and pleasent valley, etc, never stopped from when i get her going again on 77 to my driveway where it sits.

I would like to know if u guys know where i can get a cheap clutch kit for it, or the cheapest/best place to take it for repair.

this totally sucks.

truck is a 1996 isuzu rodeo 3.2ltr 4x4."

"it shifts fine into all gears when clutch is pressed, even moves forward, the release bearing went.

oh and as soon as i knew something was wrong i pressed in the clutch and rolled the shoulder as far as it'd go. hope im safe for that quick instinct i had"

Todays Update:

got that exedy kit, and trannys on the ground. i turned the input shaft to see what happens, and theres a rattle, i took a crappy video, but the sounds is wht matters.

i did drain all the fluid and my friend (mechanic) said it needs to be aligned straight on the pilot bearing to actually tell anything. what could this noise be? you'll hear me turning the input shaft, but listen to the other ting, its like shaking a can of spray paint?

please look: http://defused.us/rodeo/MOV00466.MPG

need some quick responses, need my truck on the road!

thanks!

made the same noise it did when i started back driving after stopping, like the noise when i shifted up until 4th.

edit, can i open that middle part up to see if something broke or whatnot? i need the truck asap but id hate to put it back up and have something wrong with the tranny just to tear it back down again.

The sound is not good.

What did the oil look like? Chunks? What was attached to the magnet?

Michael

*****..........

I changed everything on the clutch, except pilot bearing, it looks ans sounds fine. I get the whole truck back together, and its doing the same thing it did when I started, I think I ***** something up in my transmission. Only makes the metal on metal/rattling noise when im off the clutch, i press the clutch and nothing. WTF?

Ill probably make a new thread, but if you watch the video I posted in a post above imagine that only going really fast...

Any help GREATLY appreciated!!!

been without my truck for almost a month, this is getting crazy.
