How much time am i looking at to replace a head gasket including all the misc things that have to or should be replaced(timing chain, etc) 88 22re.

depends 8 to 24 hours if you have or can borrow a digi cam take lot of pics and large ones this will help when putting it back together

if you plan on cleaning everything up real well it will take longer

Have you done something like this before? If not, give yourself at least two days.

Do you have the tools? Do you have a machine shop to clean and test and possibly mill the head? Do you have a plan for parts if the head is too far gone? Do you have an FSM, or at least a Haynes book? (don't use chilton!!)

What should be a relatively easy job, all things considered, can easily turn into a nightmare. It's all the little crap that will come up and bite you, like exhaust manifold studs stripping.

There is lots of info here. If you DO plan on tackling this, you need 1 part tools, 1 part parts, 3 parts methodical-ness, and 5 parts patience. Shortcuts are a <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" />

that's for sure i once ended up doing a mazda h/g 2x because the head was warped and i didn't take the time 2 get it checked. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/sleeping.gif" alt="" />
