So I recently decided to buy some new drums/shoes for the back of my truck. An ex-girlfriend had accidentally driven about 30 miles with the e-brake on and the drums were never the same; the shoes were cracked and the drums were seriously out-of-round (even after machining them several times).
Anywho, after getting my new drums from NAPA, I spent about half a day sanding, prepping, then painting them to look OEM (the NAPA ones were just plain cast steel, and I didn't want that rusty look cramping my style!!) I was very proud of my handyman work!
Long story short, the new drums were out-of-round straight from the box! Even while initially adjusting them, I could tell they were skimming in some spots, and now it feels as though the back end is hopping around when I hit the brakes coming from a freeway offramp or something. They're BAD.
Has anyone else had this problem with brand new drums? Or are you supposed to get them machined before you put them on anyway? (though that would seem redundant)
Let me know your thoughts!

I don't think I buy the story that they're just used, remachined drums. Maybe they're remanufactured or something. Anyhow, I had a friend grind 'em down for me, and they feel a lot better (for the time being ). BUT, the SOB ruined my beautiful paint job I spent so long on! Now there's gouges down to the bare metal, which are gonna rust. And I'm way too lazy to take them off and repaint them!
