OK I have a 1994 Yota 4x4 with a 3.0L with about 140K miles on it. I have only had the truck less than a year. I noticed the other day on a trip that the oil pressure guage at an idle is on the the first left hand mark and as I accererate and maintain a highway speed it increases and settles out in what I would call a normal possition "next mark on the right hand side. Does this sound normal for the pressure to very that much? Any feedback would be great.

Normal.

The pump is spinning slowly at idle, thus lower pressure. When you increase engine RPM, the pump speed increases accordingly, and the pressure rises.

Not sure where you live but presume DFW is Dallas Fort Worth( I'm from Canada and only speculating). You may want to consider using a thicker oil in the warm/hot weather. I'm changing my oil this weekend and putting in a thicker oil as opposed to a thin winter oil. We are in the low 70's and I noticed my pressure drop a little.

Good point, I just changed the oil not to long ago. I put in a 10w30. I may try a 10w-40 next time. I don't mean to sound like a dumbass in this question, but I bought the truck from my dad and I don't drive it everyday because I have a work truck. Which really sucks because I really like to drive the truck. The sticker in the window from when my dad owned said 10w-30 so that is what I got.

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't developing a possible problem. The truck runs great, has no leaks, and the oil level on the dipstick is right on. Thanks for the input guys.

My 3.0 does/did(stock gauge is now unplugged) the same thing. Originally it only dropped that low when at idle, then started doing it on the highway when holding at a constant speed. I installed an aftermarket guage to get a better reading, the pressure is at the high end of specs when warming up, and is above 55psi when cruising down the highway.

10/30 weight should be fine for you year round, that is all I have ever used, and the weather temps the truck runs in range from 115 in the summer to teens in the winter.

I find the same thing on my 22RE. If I run at least a xxW40 weight oil, the idle pressure stays up in the normal range. If I run xxW30 it'll drop below the marked range on the gauge when the engine is hot. So I usually run a 15W40 or 20W50 oil year round.
