Getting the Wheeling Fever
hi folks,

it is hot yesterday in New York. I feel my A/C is not really cold. I think the freon probably is low. So I am trying to check it out and charge it. But the problem is I can not locate the freon check window. I found the black bottle with a cap mark "H" just behind the driver side grille. I check the service manual it shoe the same location. But I still can not find it. Stupid me

I can not find the low service port either. can somebody tell me where it is. really apprecaited.

the low service port is on the a/c pump

the window is on the top of that black bottle you found with the high service port. it should be a little sight glass a little smaller in size than a dime. if you have truck running with a/c on, you should see stuff moving through the glass as the system cycles.

If you get a small container of R-134a and the hose to hook it up to the car, you should be able to recharge the system pretty easily, but you need to be careful. Because your low-side fitting is on the compressor, the chances are greater that you can damage/ruin the compressor by allowing liquid to enter. When you charge your A/C system, don't turn the can upside down - leave it right side up. It will take longer, but you won't hurt the compressor. If you want to make it charge a bit faster you can place the R-134a can into some warm water to increase its pressure.

If you are looking for the sight glass (the window you mentioned), there may not be one. Not all A/C systems have them. If there were one it would likely be on top of your receiver-drier, but looking at your picture there isn't one there - only the high-side service port. Your low-side lines will be larger in diameter than your high-side lines. What you need to do to find the low-side service port is follow the larger line coming off the compressor. If you follow it all the way back to the firewall, you're bound to find the low-side fitting. Though the low-side line is larger than the high-side line, the low-side fitting will be smaller, and it may have a platic cap with an "L" on it. Like Scottie said, the fitting may be on the compressor itsself. It could be anywhere between the compressor and the firewall.
