I purchased a second hand 3-burner Coleman liquid fuel stove yesterday for the upcoming Pismo trip. I'm wondering if it's possible to change the generation tube and add a propane regulator so I can limit my requirements to carrying only 1 type of fuel. I'd like to bring one big propane bottle and run everything I have on one tree.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

I would think so, but for your own safety and warranty, see if you can contact Coleman and elicit a response.

Thanks. I'll try and contact them. Warranty isn't an issue, this thing is old as dirt, but I don't wanna blow my kid up.

Thanks again.

Jon,

One difference to consider is how the fuel is metered. I don't think there's much difference in the burner, but there could be something that moderates how much air is mixed with the fuel. You'll alreay have your liqid fuel source in the gas tank on the truck. I don't think you'll be able to convert from unleaded/white gas to propane for technical reasons, may not be worth the time or messing with safety issues.

I agree. White gas and propane have totally different characteristics. The regulater, mixture control, size of plumbing, and burners will probably all be different with the two different fuels.

Thanks for the input. I bought the "converter" and received it in the mail today. I'm going to test it tomorrow. It's pretty simple actually. It looks like I just pull the white gas generation tube out of the stove and put this new one in. The assy has a propane cut out valve/regulator for a small propane bottle attached to a generation tube and nozzle that goes into the stove. The guy who sold it to me said it worked the one time he used it, so I guess we'll see. I'll let you guys know how it goes...

Did the conversion work and if yes then where did you get it and how expensive was it?

The conversion works great! Much more flame out of the propane set up. Less messy, too. I will, however, keep the liquid fuel set up as a contingency...

Sorry it took so long to report. I paid $15 shipped from a few hours North of me. You can get them new at Wal-mart for $18 + tax. I wish I'd have found that before...
