I bought the raider from my dad.It runs about 20 minutes than shuts off.It will crank over but no run.My dad has put in new electronic fuel pump in tank,new distrubtor and cap,wires,complete tune up. plus new coil.When it dies it wont even fire with starting fluid.Any ideas would be great.

Tank return line plugged?

You said your dad was working in the tank. I wonder if the tank return line got pinched, plugged, or something like that.

Run it til it dies, then remove your tank filler cap. Is there a suction when it's removed?

If you aren't sure when the fuel filter was last replaced, replace it now. The next time it dies, immediately check the coil. Then check the ignition switch.

And the coolant temp sensor for the ecu...

I'm betting bad coil. Mine exhibited the same symptoms when the Accel died an early death. One new coil later, and all was well.

After checking the stuff above, check the little black transistor attached to the coil bracket if it's a V6. Sometimes cleaning the connection works; other times you have to replace it. They become heat sensitive and shut off the spark when hot. Once they cool down they work.

Its a 3.0.Im sorry took so long to get back to you. This site rocks as i figure out how to use site.The starter went out replaced it. It cranks over now. But sometimes starts runs very short time and dies.Sometimes it turns over hard.Sometimes it whirls over like no spark.Ive cleaned ground cable and body ground.I just ordered a new engine electrical control relay for it. Because it seems to stick for long time and then clicks.I wish id checked this again sooner. Some great ideas some ive tried some i will be doing in the morning.I have been doing my homework when theres time. Junkyards in this area dont have no 89 raiders with 3.0.Ive been looking for that litle blackbox on coil bracket with no luck.One dealer said parts cant be ordered.But did find dealer says can order that little blackbox on coil if i order factory coil comes on the bracket 259.00.WOW Still cool vehicle. Thanks for more ideas.Try them and see let you know.

I just picked up one from the dealer they had it in stock $215. The told me you have to buy the "black box" (aka igniter) with the the coil as they are "calibrated" ???? I am having the same problem as you.. Frank gave me a laundry list and it worked for a while but now I am back to the stalling problem.
Here is Franks list of things to check.
1) Check all vacuum lines to make sure they're not cracked and in place where they should be.
2) Check the EGR system operation.
3) Check the vacuum switch on the front of the intake manifold near the thermostat - it has 2 vacuum hoses and often is cracked - even though it looks ok.
4) Check the rotor and distributor cap.
5) Check ignition timing.
6) Check the o2 sensor (it's about time to replace it).
7) Clean the ISC and throttle body.
8) Check the resistance values on the IAC, TPS and AFM.
9) Put in a bottle of fuel injector cleaner and as a last resort, send the injectors out for cleaning.
10)Another last resort would be to replace the fuel pump.
